Macclesfield Seals Swimming Club held a fantastic Celebratory Evening at Macclesfield Town Hall on
Saturday 8th April 2017.
This was exactly 60 years after the inaugural meeting to set up the club in 1957.
The Mayor and her consort and cadet were in attendance as one of her last functions in her year of office.
She thanked the committee and volunteers of the club for the great work they do which contributes to the Community life of Macclesfield. She also said what a pleasure it was to be able to honour Ron Gill, the Seals Chairman, in recognition of his voluntary work by presenting him with an award at her Mayoral Thanksgiving Service a fortnight ago.
A message from the Club's Patron, Dame Sarah Storey, was read out in which she sent her congratulations and apologised for not being able to attend the event due to her cycling commitments.
Wendy Moss, the club secretary, gave a brief history of the club and of her involvement and acknowledged all the volunteers past and present who had made the running of the club possible.
A buffet was enjoyed by nearly 100 people and a cake, decorated with the club logo, was cut and enjoyed by the attendees. Music was provided by Jenny Douglas "Little but Loud" singing pop and soul classics, followed by Steve Delight and his Travelling Blues Orchestra to accompany dancing by members, friends and families.
